Create a Wine Closet with Chalk Paint™

It began as a great Christmas gift idea and blossomed into a reality. My kids and I banded together to create a special Wine Closet for my husband, Mike. He literally has bottles of wine stored all around the house and we wanted to create a special place just for his collection.

This isn't your typical wine cellar, per say. The area we used is a little closet under the stairs that used to be the kids' clubhouse; the place where they stored their coats, shoes, sporting equipment, etc.

We emptied it out and pulled up the carpet and used Chalk Paint™ in Graphite to paint the drywall under the stairs. I installed the drywall a few years ago at the same time that I infamously ripped the carpet off my stairs.

We also used the Graphite and Paris grey on the floor to create a trendy checked-tile pattern. I had another one of many Annie Sloan "aha" moments when I realized that one coat of each colour was enough! After adding a coat of Laquer, we were ready to go. I apologize for the blurry image. It's a tad bit difficult to take a good photo in here!

We picked out a cabinet and a sign from The Passionate Home.  The wine racks from Pier 1 Imports.

The wine fridge is from Home Depot.

Needless to say, Mike was thrilled and the kids and I were so excited to see the smile on his face.
