When Opportunity Knocks Do You Open the Door

One sunny morning, opportunity knocked kindly at my door and not knowing what was to come...I opened the door wide! That was a few months ago now and I thought I would share with what came through the door.

Sonya Perkins is the successful owner of Forever Yours Lingerie and Lucy Clothing in downtown Langley.  I met Sonya about 7 years ago, and as my business grew, I looked to her for advice and inspiration.  When you own your own business, it is your baby, it is 24/7, it is your bread and butter, and it is you!  So, when Sonya asked for my help to redecorate her lingerie store, I was shocked, excited, scared but mostly honoured!  The décor of a store is a first impression, a taste of all the goodness that is to come upon entering. The décor is a feeling and a treat for all your senses.  If you have never been in Forever Yours Lingerie, let me tell you, it is beautiful, busy and very large.  After I had a clearer understanding of what was expected, I accepted the job and went away thinking, “This project is way out of my comfort zone...what am I thinking?” Well, one thing was clear, I could not do it alone!

null Meet Mark. A few years ago, while filming the reality TV show The Million Dollar Neighbourhood, I met Mark.  On the show, one of the challenges was to perform an extreme home repair on a home in Aldergrove, and Mark and I were both members of the design team.  Little did I know that he lived three doors down from my home and we had never met! Since the show we have donated our time to a few AOK Extreme Home Repairs and we have become fast friends.  Mark is an amazing person and gifted artist.  His tastes are more modern than mine, and he helps me see outside of what I am comfortable with.  So when Sonya asked for a modern feeling in her store with a vintage twist, I knew just who to call.

I am thrilled that The Passionate Home now not only does home décor consultations, but also has a commercial division! Since starting this project for Forever Yours Lingerie, we have also been lucky enough to help Frosting Cupcakery in downtown Langley with their interior when they moved into their new, larger location at the beginning of the one way on Fraser Hwy.  If you have not seen their new digs, be sure to stop in for a latte and a treat. Visit often because we are adding new décor to their location a little at a time!

We feel very blessed to have these opportunities and feel honoured to be a part of something that is so very important for both companies. I can tell you too much about what the plans are for Forever Yours Lingerie, but I can say that it will be an Extreme Store Makeover as the store will be closed down for approximately one week for its transformation.  I hope to share sneak peeks with you as the time gets closer, but I will definitely send out an invitation to the store reopening event!

I love the quote by Helen Keller, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” I hope you open your door...opportunity knocks for all of us!

What an awesome opportunity, Carrie! Not too surprising, though, as The Passionate Home is a decorating inspiration sensation! I’m sure you will do something amazing!
