Yesterday I was interviewed by a student wanting to re-enter the work force and she came armed with questions about running a business. One of the questions I always struggle with is, "Can you describe The Passionate Home?" I always think this question has such a BIG answer. Just looking back at some of my old advertising write ups made me chuckle. Another question that often comes up is, "How did your business get started?" Of course I know the answer to that one, and it has not changed since I opened. Just take a look ...Another common question is, "Do you consider your business a success?" Well, this one always makes wonder what the definition of success is! Seven years ago, this was my future plan...Who knew?? In seven years I have expanded once and move twice. Today, The Passionate Home is three times its original square footage, we offer workshops on Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan, Basic Upholstery, and Upholstered Headboard workshops!
Today I describe The Passionate Home as a community effort. From the people who have worked with me, the customers who have supported me, the pickers who have supplied me, my family who have supported me, the people who have believed in me, and the people that we have supported.
As I am writing this I think I am having an "AH HA" moment. I should not be so concerned on how I am describing The Passionate Home in my advertising, but be thankful that YOU are describing TPH to your friends and that you are sharing the unique Passionate Home experience with them. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising there is and without it I am sure we would not be celebrating today.
So, let's go back to how it all started...TPH is excited to host a Birthday FLEA! We will transform the back of the store into a good old fashioned flea market with vintage finds and all things UNIQUE AND WONDERFUL!
